The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced the confirmation of 21 new Mpox cases, bringing the nationwide total to 218 since the virus was first detected in the country.
Mpox, also known as monkeypox, is primarily spread through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected person, according to health experts. The GHS is calling on the public to remain cautious and strictly observe preventive guidelines to help stop the spread of the disease.
Common symptoms of Mpox include fever, body rash, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle pain. Health authorities stress that early detection and timely reporting are crucial in managing the outbreak effectively.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and are working with partners to boost surveillance, raise public awareness, and ensure medical support reaches affected areas,” the GHS assured in a public statement.
As efforts continue to contain the outbreak, the GHS is urging individuals who notice symptoms or have had close contact with suspected cases to seek medical attention immediately.
