NPP Bans Phones in Inner Polling Zones for Flagbearer Election

Delegates warned they risk disqualification and police action if they bring phones into inner polling areas

Story Highlights
  • NPP delegates are strictly prohibited from bringing mobile phones into inner polling zones during the flagbearer election
  • Only approved IDs—party ID, national ID, passport, or Ghana card—will be accepted for voting
  • Delegates who break the rules risk disqualification, police prosecution, and denial of their voting rights

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strict warning to all delegates participating in its flagbearer primaries on Saturday, January 31, prohibiting mobile phones inside the inner sections of polling centres.

Party officials have cautioned that any delegate who violates the rule will face arrest, police prosecution, and disqualification from voting.

Speaking in an interview, Isaac Baah Boamah, a member of the NPP Presidential Election Committee, outlined the detailed voting arrangements and rules.

“The polling areas have been divided into three zones: outer, middle, and inner. Delegates will first be verified in the outer section using their approved identification—party ID, national ID, passport, or Ghana card. Anyone without valid ID will be barred from voting,” he explained.

Boamah emphasized that party officials will not validate any other forms of identification and urged delegates to ensure they carry their IDs to avoid disqualification.

He further stressed, “When entering the inner circle, delegates must not bring any foreign material, including mobile phones. Everyone must comply to ensure a smooth and credible voting process.”

The ballot features five aspirants vying for the NPP flagbearer position:

  • Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (Former Vice President)

  • Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (Former MP for Assin Central)

  • Dr. Bryan Acheampong (MP for Abetifi)

  • Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum (MP for Bosomtwe)

  • Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (Former NPP General Secretary)
