A small charter aircraft has crashed in Namibia’s remote Sossusvlei desert, killing the pilot and three German tourists on board, officials confirmed on Monday.

The plane reportedly went missing on Sunday after taking off from a private runway near Hosea Kutako International Airport, en route to a luxury lodge destination.

Desert Air chief executive Willem de Wet said rescue teams located the wreckage early Monday morning in the vast desert terrain.

“There are no survivors,” he stated, describing the incident as a tragic loss for the victims’ families, friends, and the wider tourism sector.

The airline has informed the relatives of those killed, while aviation investigators have begun probing the cause of the crash.

The aircraft involved was identified as a Cessna 210, commonly used for charter flights across Namibia’s tourism and wilderness routes.

Sossusvlei, where the crash occurred, is known for its striking red sand dunes and dramatic desert landscapes that attract visitors from around the world.

The region is a major tourist hotspot in Namibia, which continues to draw significant numbers of German travellers each year due to its historical ties and safari tourism.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine what led to the fatal accident.
