Political analyst Frederick Amoyao has slammed sections of the media for misinterpreting a letter from Bantama MP Francis Asenso Boakye to former President John Mahama.
Amoyao described the letter as a responsible and patriotic appeal urging the completion of the ongoing Accra–Kumasi highway dualization, rather than prioritizing a new expressway.
He emphasized that the MP’s intent was to avoid wasteful spending and ensure continuity in national development—not to resist progress in the Ashanti Region.
The controversy began during the 2026 parliamentary budget debate when the Finance Minister alleged that Asenso Boakye had requested the President halt the proposed expressway in favor of finishing the existing project. Several media outlets quickly framed the MP as opposing development, sparking widespread backlash.
Amoyao criticized this reporting, saying journalists failed to fully understand the letter’s content before publicizing it. He singled out Angel FM presenter Ohemaa Sekyiwaa for her harsh on-air criticism, calling it an example of poor due diligence that undermines media credibility.
Highlighting the safety concerns along the Accra–Kumasi route, Amoyao argued that completing the dualization would save lives and reduce unnecessary financial waste, urging the government to prioritize finishing ongoing projects before embarking on new ones.
He concluded that careful, professional reporting and informed decision-making are essential for both media integrity and effective national development.
