Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Questions Timing of OSP Probe into Alleged Vote Buying in NPP Primaries
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urges OSP to act independently and promptly on alleged vote buying in NPP primaries

- Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu questions the timing of OSP’s investigation into alleged vote buying.
- Criticizes perceived “equalisation” in probing both NPP and NDC claims.
- Calls for OSP to act independently and decisively rather than waiting for issues to surface in other parties.
Former Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over its handling of allegations of vote buying during the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu questioned the timing of the announcement that the OSP was investigating claims of vote buying involving both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress.
“I don’t like this kind of equalisation. The OSP should be a man; he should be principled,” he said, adding that any concerns should have been addressed immediately after the election.
He argued that waiting until allegations surfaced against another party before announcing investigations into both creates the wrong impression. “You wait until it happens in the NDC and you say, okay, I’m going to hold NDC responsible and at the same time I’m going to do this. What is that?” he questioned.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu clarified that he is not against legitimate investigations. “If anything went wrong, it should be investigated. It may be wrong,” he said.
However, he stressed that the OSP must demonstrate independence and decisiveness. “It should show greater independence and determination. Rather than wait for something to happen and then say before I dive into this, I’m told this also happened, so I want to do the two together. It’s not the best,” he added.
