The Director of the Department of Social Welfare in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Isaac Frimpong, has appealed to government, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support female students with sanitary pads to promote proper menstrual hygiene.

According to him, many young girls continue to face difficulties during menstruation due to a lack of access to sanitary products. He noted that this challenge often affects their comfort, confidence, and school attendance, and called for urgent attention to the issue.

Mr. Frimpong made the appeal during the celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day held at Tepa-Akwasiase. The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Health Service (GHS). As part of the programme, sanitary pads were distributed to female students in the area.

He urged authorities, civil society organisations, and benevolent individuals to step in and support girls in schools with sanitary materials to help improve menstrual hygiene management and reduce absenteeism.

The SHEP Coordinator of the Ahafo Ano North Education Directorate, Mr. Foster Afedemenyo, also spoke at the event. He explained that World Menstrual Hygiene Day is observed to create awareness about menstrual health, educate young girls on proper hygiene practices, and help eliminate the stigma surrounding menstruation.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisers for the support, saying the donation would go a long way to ease the challenges they face during their menstrual periods.
