- NIA to prosecute Ghanaians who vouch for foreigners during Ghana Card registration
- 20 people, including guarantors, are already facing legal action
- Citizens urged to avoid turning the vouching process into a business
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a stern warning that it will prosecute Ghanaians who illegally vouch for foreign nationals attempting to obtain Ghana Cards.
At a press briefing held on Monday, August 4, 2025, the NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, revealed that the authority has begun legal proceedings against several offenders.
Among the 20 individuals currently facing charges, some are Ghanaian citizens who unlawfully vouched for foreigners—violating the laws governing the national identity registration system.
“It’s easy for us to track such misconduct in our system,” Darlas noted, adding that the NIA is particularly concerned about individuals who have turned the vouching process into a money-making scheme by endorsing strangers.
“To those treating this process like a business, your time is up,” he warned.
The NIA emphasized its commitment to preserving the credibility of Ghana’s identity infrastructure and urged the public to report any fraudulent activity related to the Ghana Card registration process.
