John Boadu Defeats Agyarko, Afoko to Become NPP Chairman

John Boadu secures 2,888 votes to defeat Boakye Agyarko and Paul Afoko and lead the NPP’s new national executive team

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has been elected National Chairman of the party following its National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

John Boadu secured 2,888 votes, representing 47.19% of the total votes cast, to reclaim the position and lead the party’s new national leadership.

His closest contender, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, polled 2,408 votes (39.35%), while former National Chairman Paul Afoko secured 790 votes (12.90%).

Sammy Crabbe obtained 41 votes, representing 0.67%.

The election marks a political comeback for John Boadu, who previously served as NPP General Secretary but lost his bid for re-election in 2022.

Meanwhile, Justin Kodua Frimpong retained his position as NPP General Secretary after securing 4,486 votes, the highest number recorded by any candidate in the 2026 national executive elections. His closest contender, Sylvester Tetteh, polled 1,340 votes.

Other elected national officers include Kojo Fosu Boadu (Kojo Bamba) as First Vice Chairman, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) as Second Vice Chairman, Nana Akomea as Third Vice Chairman, Alfred Kwadwo Thompson as National Treasurer, and Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover as National Organiser.

Mavis Hawa Koomson was elected National Women’s Organiser, while Abanga Yakubu Fuseini won the National Youth Organiser position. Mohammed Ali Suraj was elected Nasara Organiser, while Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye was elected National Communications Director unopposed.
