Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond—widely known as K.T. Hammond—has threatened legal action against the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and the Auditor-General of Ghana over a report that allegedly links him to financial misconduct.
In a phone interview with Kwabena Ahwireng Martin, Mr. Hammond firmly denied any wrongdoing during his tenure as minister, describing the claims as “palpably false.”
He also criticized what he sees as a lack of due process, arguing that he was not given the chance to respond to the allegations before the report was made public.
“It’s untrue that I have embezzled such money. I should be given the opportunity to understand the issues and present my side before any report is released,” he stated.
Mr. Hammond is demanding a retraction and an apology, insisting that the allegations—reportedly involving GH¢89 million—have caused serious damage to his reputation.
“They should be ready to meet me in court. You don’t make such claims lightly,” he warned.
Highlighting his 24 years of service in Parliament, the former minister noted that his record has never been tainted by misconduct. He reaffirmed his determination to challenge the allegations in court in order to clear his name.
