Four people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus on the Peki stretch in the Volta Region on Sunday, June 21, 2026.

The bus, which was travelling from Accra to Dambai, reportedly lost control, veered off the road, and plunged into a ditch, resulting in multiple casualties.

According to reports, 28 people, including the driver and his mate, were on board at the time of the accident. Four passengers died from injuries sustained in the crash, while several others were injured.

Among the victims were two pregnant women. One is reported to be six months pregnant, while the other is five months pregnant.

Emergency response teams and security personnel quickly arrived at the scene to rescue trapped passengers and transport the injured to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Medical personnel are currently attending to the injured, with two victims said to be in critical condition and receiving intensive care.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigations are expected to establish the circumstances that led to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

The incident adds to growing concerns about road safety and the need for increased caution on major highways across the country.
