COKA Urges Former NPP Constituency Chairmen to Ensure Proper Handover

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, has urged former constituency chairmen to conduct proper handovers to their successors to ensure smooth administrative continuity across the region.

Chairman Appiah made the call when a delegation of former constituency chairmen paid a courtesy visit to congratulate him and the newly elected regional executive committee.

He stressed the need for accountability, proper documentation and the preservation of institutional knowledge as the party prepares its grassroots structures and strategy ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Accountability and Proper Documentation

COKA encouraged outgoing constituency executives to prepare comprehensive handover notes detailing the state of affairs in their respective constituencies.

He said the documents should include inventories of party assets in their possession, outstanding issues and practical recommendations to guide incoming executives.

Drawing on his own experience as a former constituency chairman, Chairman Appiah said he had ensured a detailed handover when his tenure ended.

“As a former constituency chairman myself, I provided detailed handover notes to my successor, including a full inventory of party assets in my possession. This ensured the new chairman could step in and administer the office effectively from day one,” he stated.

Commitment to Inclusive Governance

The Ashanti Regional Chairman also assured former executives that his administration would pursue an inclusive leadership approach.

He said former officers remained an important part of the party and their experience would be valuable in rebuilding and strengthening the NPP’s grassroots structures in the Ashanti Region.

According to him, the party’s prospects in the 2028 elections would depend largely on unity and the ability of current and former executives to work together.

His administration, he indicated, would focus on:

• Grassroots Mobilisation: Engaging former executives in strategic advisory and campaign activities.
• Structural Reform: Improving communication and coordination between constituency and regional structures.
• Resource Optimisation: Supporting local party offices with the necessary resources to enhance voter engagement and mobilisation.

Former Leaders Pledge Support

The courtesy visit also provided an opportunity for former party leaders and affiliated groups to express their support for the newly elected regional leadership.

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr F.F. Anto, commended COKA for his early leadership initiatives and urged him to maintain his focus on grassroots restructuring to deliver tangible results for the party.

The Nhyiaeso Constituency Chairman, Mr Owusu Bempah, also pledged logistical support toward the completion of the NPP’s new regional secretariat, which was donated by Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

He further committed to supporting the party’s mobilisation and campaign efforts ahead of the 2028 elections.

Northern Diaspora Group Declares Support

A Kumasi-based advocacy group representing communities from Ghana’s five northern regions also expressed its support for the new Ashanti Regional leadership.

The group pledged to assist the party with grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement as the NPP prepares for future elections.

Chairman Appiah’s call for proper handovers forms part of his broader emphasis on strengthening the party’s internal structures, promoting accountability and bringing together experienced and current executives to build a more coordinated grassroots organisation in the Ashanti Region.
