The Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana (PAOG) has confirmed the death of another Ghanaian pilgrim participating in the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.

In a Facebook statement on Wednesday, May 27, the office announced that 60-year-old Alhaji Sulemana Iddrisu died on Tuesday, May 26, at Arafat—one of the most sacred sites in Islam during the pilgrimage.

According to PAOG, the deceased was buried in Saudi Arabia in line with Islamic customs after his relatives were duly informed.

The office explained that Saudi Hajj regulations allow for pilgrims who die during the pilgrimage to be buried in the Holy Land, with full documentation of the death carried out locally.

It further noted that in Islamic belief, passing away in a state of Ihram on the Day of Arafat is regarded as a highly honoured death. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is cited as having said that such pilgrims will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment still in Ihram.

PAOG added that it worked closely with Saudi authorities to ensure the family was informed and updated before the burial took place.

The office extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for Allah to grant the deceased mercy and accept his Hajj as Hajj Mabroor, granting him Jannatul Firdaus.

This incident comes after the reported death of another Ghanaian pilgrim, Musah Sidi, aged 53, who died while performing Tawaf at the Holy Kaaba in Mecca on May 22.
