The Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah has urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Central Region to exceed the targets set in their performance contracts or risk sanctions for underperformance.

He delivered the warning when all 23 MMDCEs in the region assembled at the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) to sign their performance contracts—an initiative aimed at strengthening accountability, improving service delivery and aligning district development with national priorities.

Mr Eduamoah stressed that performance should not be limited to what is captured in official documents, noting that real impact often depends on initiatives and supporting actions not explicitly stated in contracts.

“Signing the contract is not enough,” he said. “If we fall short of the indicators, there must be sanctions. Those who do not perform should face the appropriate consequences.”

The Minister emphasised that effective governance requires going “beyond the table, paper and pen,” encouraging the MMDCEs to apply innovation, diligence and proactive leadership in their respective assemblies.

He also cautioned against working in isolation, warning that the shortcomings of one official could negatively affect the entire assembly. He pledged to closely monitor their performance to ensure high standards are maintained across the region.

Additionally, Mr Eduamoah underscored the importance of good client service, urging assemblies to improve their interactions with the public. He noted that poor attitudes could discourage residents from fulfilling civic obligations such as paying property rates.

Describing accountability as both a professional and moral responsibility, he called on the MMDCEs to embrace time management, openness, teamwork and collaboration as essential tools for advancing development in the region.
