Education Ministry Warns of Strict Penalties for Assaulting Teachers
Ministry pledges full legal action against perpetrators of violence in schools

The Ministry of Education has warned that anyone who assaults teachers will face severe legal consequences, following recent violent incidents in schools nationwide.
Deputy Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak expressed concern over attacks on teachers by students and others, emphasizing that assaults against educators in the lawful performance of their duties will be punished under Ghanaian law.
Several recent cases have led to arrests and prosecutions. At Kade Senior High Technical School, those involved in attacking a tutor were convicted and fined. In a separate incident at West Africa Senior High School, two students and an accomplice were remanded for six weeks pending further court proceedings.
The Ministry also condemned misconduct during the Super Zonal Sports Competition in the Eastern Region, which reportedly involved a stabbing and an alleged sexual assault. Suspects have been arrested and victims are receiving medical and psychosocial support.
Citing President John Dramani Mahama’s remarks at the 54th GNAT Delegates Conference, the Ministry reinforced that attacks on teachers will not be tolerated. It reaffirmed its commitment to working with law enforcement and the judiciary to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
