The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The decision follows extensive consultations by the National Executive Committee (NEC) with key stakeholders, aimed at identifying a consensus candidate with the strongest prospects of winning the seat.
To achieve this, the NEC formed a Candidate Search Committee chaired by former Party General Secretary John Boadu. After broad engagement with stakeholders across the Ayawaso East Constituency and the Greater Accra Region, the Committee unanimously recommended Baba Ali Yussif, the current Constituency Secretary, as the most suitable candidate.
Based on the Committee’s recommendation, the Party convened an expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting and a Delegates Conference on Sunday, February 8, 2026, where delegates unanimously acclaimed Baba Ali Yussif as the NPP’s parliamentary candidate.
The Party has called on all members, supporters, and sympathizers to rally behind Baba Ali Yussif, describing him as the Party’s best candidate to secure victory in the by-election. The NPP also urged the people of Ayawaso East to vote for Baba Ali, emphasizing that his election would bring renewed hope, effective representation, and progress to the constituency.
