The Paramount Chief of the Asante Akyem Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, has passed away.

The late chief, who was also the father of media personality AJ Sarpong, was a distinguished traditional ruler, lawyer, and politician, recognized for his pivotal role in the development of the Agogo Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region.

He reportedly died in the late hours of Thursday, March 26, 2026, following health complications.

Born on August 11, 1938, Nana Akuoko Sarpong was enstooled as Omanhene on December 23, 1975, succeeding his uncle, Nana Kwaku Duah, and later pledged allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware II, in January 1976.

Affectionately known as Agogomanhene, he reigned for more than four decades, celebrating 47 years on the throne by early 2023.

During his tenure, the Agogo Traditional Area witnessed notable growth, especially in agriculture, and his leadership was marked by stability, development, and dedication to traditional governance.

His death signals the end of an era, with many expected to honour his legacy of service, leadership, and commitment to his people.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
