Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put aside sectional interests and unite as the party reorganises ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the NPP’s 2026 National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, Akufo-Addo said the election of new national officers was an important step in rebuilding the party’s organisational structures.

He called on delegates to elect leaders capable of uniting the party and strengthening its structures from the polling-station level to the national level.

“Guided by the theme, ‘One Party, One Purpose, United for Victory,’ delegates will rise above sectional interests and elect leadership capable of uniting our ranks and rebuilding our fortunes at every level from the polling station to the presidency.”

The former President acknowledged that rebuilding the party would require commitment, time, energy and loyalty from members.

He also expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to return to government, referencing the party’s electoral victories in 2000 and 2016.

Akufo-Addo said he believed that, with God’s guidance, the party could form a government under the leadership of its 2028 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, with a focus on the rule of law and the welfare of Ghanaians.

The NPP’s National Delegates Conference is being held to elect national officers who will oversee the party’s organisational activities in the coming years. More than 7,000 delegates are participating in the conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to the party and wished delegates a successful conference as the NPP begins another phase of its internal reorganisation.
