At least 12 people have been confirmed dead, while two others remain in critical condition following a devastating road accident at Nkenkensu in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.

The fatal crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a commercial mini-bus travelling from Kumasi to Techiman collided head-on with a trailer moving from Techiman towards Kumasi.

Eyewitnesses said the driver of the commercial vehicle attempted to overtake another vehicle but suddenly veered into the lane of the oncoming trailer, resulting in the deadly collision.
Medical officials at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital confirmed that 12 passengers were pronounced dead upon arrival at the facility.
Hospital authorities further disclosed that two survivors sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment in critical condition.
An eyewitness identified as Eric, speaking to Adom News, revealed that the accident happened around 2:00 p.m., but emergency response efforts were significantly delayed.
“It took more than an hour before an ambulance arrived to transport the injured victims to the hospital,” he stated.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Nkenkensu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.
Meanwhile, the wrecked vehicles have been cleared from the road to ease traffic congestion, as police commence investigations into the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has once again heightened concerns about road safety and reckless overtaking on major highways across the country.
