Thousands of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters filled the streets of Kumasi on Sunday morning, as they rallied to welcome former President John Dramani Mahama, who is touring the Ashanti Region ahead of the 2024 elections.
The event, dubbed the “Enti Asanteman Aseda Ni” walk, aimed to emphasize the party’s call for a change in government and a shift in voting patterns in the Ashanti Region for the upcoming December 7 elections.
Mahama, visibly impressed by the overwhelming turnout, expressed his astonishment, asking, “Is this Asanteman?” He added that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was surely losing sleep over the NDC’s growing influence in the region.
The former President also urged Kumasi voters to “chase the elephant back into the bush,” referring to the NPP, and reassured Ghanaians that the NDC would not cancel the Free SHS program, despite claims made by the ruling party.
Mahama denounced the NPP’s attempts to tarnish the NDC’s image, stating that he would work to improve the Free SHS initiative if given the chance to lead again.
The massive turnout demonstrated the NDC’s strong presence and determination in a region traditionally seen as a stronghold for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
