- Dennis Miracles Aboagye granted GH¢50 million bail.
- EOCO probes alleged GH¢55 million financial irregularities.
- NPP and EOCO differ over the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team, has been granted bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his arrest over an ongoing investigation into alleged financial irregularities.
Mr. Aboagye was granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three justified sureties after several hours of engagement between his legal team and EOCO officials. He was taken into custody on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

The investigation relates to his previous role as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD). EOCO says it is investigating Mr. Aboagye, former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah, and other unnamed individuals over the alleged misappropriation, diversion, misapplication, and theft of approximately GH¢55 million in public funds.
According to EOCO, the investigation was initiated following a petition by the current Executive Secretary of IMCCoD, requesting further inquiries into a forensic audit covering the period from August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.
The anti-graft agency said the suspected offences under investigation include conspiracy to steal, stealing, using public office for personal gain, causing financial loss to the state, dissipation of public funds, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering, and other related offences.
Mr. Aboagye’s arrest attracted a number of supporters and sympathisers to the EOCO headquarters, prompting the deployment of police, military personnel, and national security operatives to maintain security and ensure the free flow of traffic.
The New Patriotic Party criticised the arrest, describing it as an attempt to intimidate its members and divert public attention from national issues. The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that political power is temporary and cautioned that public officials should uphold the principles of fairness and due process.
EOCO, however, has maintained that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the law and stressed that all persons involved will be afforded due process as investigations continue.
