Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Chairmanship hopeful, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has dismissed claims that his ongoing legal challenges could derail his ambition to lead the party as National Chairman.
Speaking in an interview, Wontumi described himself as a law-abiding citizen who always honours court appearances whenever he is required to do so.
“I am law-abiding and go to court anytime I am needed. I don’t think the court cases bar me from contesting,” he said.
He further explained that he would not comment on matters currently before the courts on radio, stressing that such issues should be handled by the judiciary.
“Everyone knows I don’t run away from questions. But at the same time, I don’t want to bring a courtroom issue to radio. It’s a judicial matter, so I’ll leave it for the judges and the courts,” he added.
Chairman Wontumi also rejected allegations linking him to illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, insisting he operates strictly within the law.
“Everyone knows the people who do galamsey. I don’t do galamsey,” he stated.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the NPP, saying his focus remains on helping the party return to power in the 2028 general elections.
“I have never been disloyal to the NPP. I do my job diligently and I love the party. My mission is to lead the NPP to victory,” he stressed.
According to him, if elected National Chairman, he would prioritise grassroots engagement and strengthen party structures across the country.
“When I am given the mandate, I will serve and not be served. I will move across all the regions and constituencies to solve problems, give hope and support members so that our flagbearer becomes the next President of the Republic of Ghana,” he said.
He maintained that his legal challenges have not weakened his ambition but rather strengthened his determination.
“My court trial will not stop my ambition to become National Chairman. If anything, it has strengthened my resolve and made me even more popular,” he said.
Wontumi expressed confidence that nothing would derail his bid, insisting he remains focused on winning the race and leading the NPP to victory in 2028.
