Residents of Nyame Bekyere, a farming community near Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region, have been thrown into shock and fear following the brutal murder of a 22-year-old commercial motorcycle rider.

The deceased, identified as Eric Nyarko, popularly known as “Junior,” was allegedly attacked and killed while carrying out his Okada business activities.

The tragic incident has sparked renewed concerns over security in the area, with family members, residents, and fellow Okada riders calling on the Ghana Police Service to intensify investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking on the incident, the deceased’s sister, Darkoa Grace, disclosed that Eric left home for work but never returned. According to her, the family made several unsuccessful attempts to locate him before calling his mobile phone, which was answered by an unknown person. She said the phone was later switched off, raising fears among relatives.

The family later received the devastating news that the young rider had been murdered.

Darkoa Grace is now appealing to the police to conduct thorough investigations and ensure that those behind the killing are arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, some commercial motorcycle riders in the area say the incident has created widespread fear among riders operating around Nyame Bekyere.

According to them, this is not the first violent attack targeting Okada riders in the community, alleging that similar incidents have occurred there in the past.

They are therefore calling on security agencies and local authorities to treat the matter as a major security concern and take urgent steps to protect both residents and commercial riders.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Holy Family Hospital in Nkawkaw for preservation and further investigations, while police have launched a manhunt for the unidentified assailants.
