Godfred Yeboah Dame Alleges Denial of Lawyer Access to Re-Arrested Buffer Stock Ex-CEO
Legal team says Economic and Organised Crime Office has blocked access to detained couple despite constitutional rights
- Lawyers say they have not been allowed to see Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife after their re-arrest.
- The couple was detained again after the Attorney General withdrew earlier charges citing new evidence.
- Godfred Dame has raised concerns over due process and access to legal representation.
Lawyers representing former National Food Buffer Stock Company CEO Abdul-Wahab Hanan and his wife, Faiza Sayyid Wuni, say they have been unable to access their clients more than 24 hours after their re-arrest by the Economic and Organised Crime Office.
The couple was taken back into custody shortly after the Office of the Attorney General withdrew earlier charges against them, citing the emergence of new evidence.
However, their legal team, led by former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, has raised concerns over being denied access to the detained pair.
Speaking in an interview, Dame said lawyers who visited EOCO had not been permitted to meet their clients as of late morning on Tuesday.
He also disclosed that Hanan reportedly fell ill during the process and was taken for medical attention before being returned to EOCO custody.
Describing the situation as troubling, Dame stressed that due process must be followed, noting that individuals under investigation are entitled to legal representation under Ghana’s Constitution.
He added that efforts are ongoing to engage the authorities to resolve the matter, urging that if there is a case against the couple, it should be handled transparently through the courts.
