Two candidates sitting the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Nkwanta South Municipality defied the odds by writing their papers after surviving a motorbike accident while on their way to the examination centre.

The incident occurred as the students were travelling to sit for their exams. They were quickly rushed to St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where they received medical attention before proceeding to the examination centre to continue their papers.

Their determination has drawn attention to the broader challenges facing candidates in the area.

Confirming the incident in an interview, the Municipal Education Director for Nkwanta South, Jonathan Korsinah, revealed that insecurity in the municipality has disrupted academic activities in recent months.

He explained that some parents refused to allow their children to camp ahead of the examinations due to safety concerns, forcing many candidates to commute daily under difficult conditions.

According to him, students in the area have lost nearly three months of instructional time, which has negatively affected preparation and could impact overall performance in this year’s BECE.

“The disruption has affected learning, and it is already reflecting in performance compared to previous years,” he noted.

Mr Korsinah appealed to residents to prioritise peace, warning that ongoing insecurity is undermining education and threatening the future of children in the municipality.
