Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has extended his best wishes to candidates across the country as the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) begins today.

In a brief message issued on Monday, the Tamale South MP urged candidates to approach the examination with confidence, discipline, and a calm mindset.

“As students across the country begin the BECE, I wish you all the very best,” he stated, encouraging them to remain composed and give their maximum effort in every paper.

He further advised candidates to uphold honesty and integrity throughout the examination period, stressing the importance of adhering to the rules.

“Remember to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity,” he added.

The Minister expressed confidence in the preparedness of the candidates, noting that their months of dedication and hard work should serve as a strong foundation for success.

“Your hard work has brought you this far—trust in it. I wish you success,” he said.

Meanwhile, more than 620,000 candidates nationwide are sitting for this year’s BECE, organised by the West African Examinations Council. The exams will run from May 4 to May 11, with 620,141 candidates from 20,395 schools participating.

This year’s examination is being conducted under heightened monitoring, as authorities intensify efforts to curb malpractice. WAEC has cautioned candidates to strictly comply with examination regulations and maintain discipline throughout the period.
