The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has appealed for increased logistical and financial backing to bolster its efforts against illegal mining activities in Ghana.

Director of Operations, Col. Dominic Buah, made the appeal during NAIMOS’s Editors’ Forum and Quarterly Press Briefing on Wednesday, March 25, noting that the Secretariat’s operations are hampered by limited resources, particularly a shortage of operational vehicles.

“We need vehicles, we need funding, we need all the necessary resources to effectively carry out our work,” he said.

Col. Buah encouraged corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations to support the Secretariat, assuring that any contributions would be publicly acknowledged to the nation.

At the same forum, Col. Buah issued a stern warning to illegal miners, urging them to avoid violent confrontations with NAIMOS personnel. He emphasized that the task force is well-trained and equipped to defend itself if provoked.

“We will not tolerate anyone using weapons against us. Our operatives are trained, and we warn that anyone who dares will face a decisive response,” he said.

He added, “This is a serious issue, and we have the right to self-defence. Any galamseyer attempting armed attacks should expect a strong counteraction.”

The NAIMOS-led operations have increasingly faced resistance in some mining communities, highlighting the need for enhanced resources to ensure the safety of personnel and the effectiveness of enforcement actions.
