Boahenkwaa M/A Basic School in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region has received a major boost in teacher welfare, with Lawson Media and the Mercy Seat Foundation handing over a newly constructed five-bedroom staff quarters to the school.

For years, the school’s teachers had faced severe accommodation challenges, with some sharing rooms with local residents and others forced to sleep in an abandoned cocoa shed. This lack of housing had discouraged many newly posted teachers from accepting positions at the school, contributing to chronic understaffing.

Lawson Media’s visit to the community in 2025 brought attention to these struggles, prompting Mercy Seat Foundation to step in and construct the staff quarters.

During the handover ceremony, the foundation also pledged to address the school’s water challenges by repairing an abandoned borehole project initiated by the District Assembly.

In addition, Lawson Media and Mercy Seat Foundation donated exercise books to the school, reinforcing their commitment to supporting education in the community.

The Odikro of Boahenkwaa expressed gratitude to Lawson Media for bringing attention to the school’s plight and thanked Mercy Seat Foundation for the new accommodation, while noting that more housing and additional teachers are still needed.

Teachers at the school praised the initiative, highlighting the improvement in living conditions.

“Previously, we had to sleep two in a room, but now each teacher has their own room,” one teacher said, commending Lawson Media for exposing the dilapidated facilities and Mercy Seat Foundation for their generous gesture.

The project marks a significant step toward improving teacher welfare and boosting educational standards at Boahenkwaa M/A Basic School.
