Gov’t Open to Overseas Treatment for GAF Stampede Victim Sandra Baafi Boateng – Akandoh

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has indicated that the government is prepared to consider sending Sandra Baafi Boateng, a victim of the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise stampede, abroad for specialised medical treatment if doctors recommend it.

Providing an update on her condition on the floor of Parliament on Monday, March 9, the minister assured lawmakers that the Ministry of Health is closely monitoring her situation and remains committed to supporting her recovery.

“I wish to assure this Honourable House that the Ministry of Health has remained actively engaged with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to ensure that Ms Sandra Baafi Boateng receives the necessary specialist care, and that every step is being taken to expedite her treatment and recovery,” he stated.

According to the minister, Ms Baafi Boateng sustained serious injuries during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise held on November 12, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. She initially received inpatient care and specialist supervision, with all medical expenses fully covered by the government to ease the financial burden on her and her family.

Mr. Akandoh further disclosed that since February 26, 2026, she has been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for continued treatment. She is currently receiving care from a specialist-led multidisciplinary medical team, including rehabilitation and social support aimed at improving her recovery.

The minister stressed that the government is exploring all available treatment options, both locally and internationally, to ensure she receives the best possible care.

Sandra Baafi Boateng has remained bedridden since the incident, which occurred during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces enlistment exercise.
