Ghana Secures 33,600 Mpox Vaccines From Africa CDC and WHO – Health Minister

Over 31,000 people vaccinated in 12 districts as government intensifies efforts to curb the spread of Mpox, with treatment costs fully covered by the state.

Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has announced that Ghana received 33,600 Mpox vaccines from the Africa Centres for Disease Control (Africa CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to help curb the spread of the disease.

According to the minister, 31,231 people have been vaccinated in 12 districts across the Ashanti, Greater Accra, and Western Regions, achieving a target coverage of 95% so far.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Health Minister added that medical bills for all patients during the vaccination exercise are covered by the state.

He stressed that the Mpox vaccination campaign has significantly reduced the rapid spread of the disease across the country.

Additionally, Minister Akandoh disclosed that the current NDC government is settling outstanding debts of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) left by the previous administration.
