President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has recovered over GH₵600 million in misappropriated public funds, reflecting the government’s intensified efforts to combat corruption and economic crime.
Speaking during his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, Mahama said the recoveries demonstrate the administration’s commitment to accountability and safeguarding public resources.
He noted that, in addition to the recovered funds, 462 cases remain under investigation, with 15 cases currently at the prosecution stage. EOCO has also dismantled transnational carjacking syndicates and recovered 29 stolen luxury vehicles.
“The government remains steadfast that corruption will not be tolerated, regardless of status or political affiliation,” Mahama stated. He added that the Attorney General’s Office will continue to pursue both criminal prosecutions and non-conviction based asset recovery to ensure misappropriated funds are returned for national development.
The investigations span a range of offences, including procurement breaches, financial misappropriation, money laundering, tax evasion, cybercrime, and cross-border organised crime. Some cases reportedly involve former ministry officials, senior state-owned enterprise officers, and private businesspersons allegedly linked to irregular payments and inflated contracts.
