Residents of Sokoban Wood Village Protest Dusty Road, Cite Rising Respiratory Cases
Ashanti Region residents demand urgent road repairs over health risks and security concerns.

- Residents protest dusty, deteriorated road conditions.
- Rising respiratory cases reported among children and elderly.
- Community urges government to fast-track stalled road project.
Residents of Sokoban Wood Village and the nearby New Site area in the Ashanti Region have staged a protest over the poor and dusty condition of their road, calling on the government and the Minister for Roads and Highways to urgently address the situation.
The demonstrators say the deplorable state of the road has led to severe dust pollution, resulting in a rise in respiratory and inflammatory illnesses, particularly among children and the elderly. They argue that the persistent dust has made daily life difficult and poses serious health risks to the community.
Beyond health concerns, residents also cited growing security challenges. According to them, the deteriorating road has made the area vulnerable to frequent armed robbery attacks, both during the day and at night.
Speaking to the media during the protest, Nana Boakye Yiadom, Kaasehene–Adontehene, expressed frustration over the stalled road project. He alleged that work on the road ceased in 2021 when contractor Kofi Job withdrew equipment from the site, with no progress made since then.
He appealed to the government to prioritize the project under its Big Push agenda, stressing that residents deserve improved infrastructure and safer living conditions. “We are also Ghanaians and deserve better,” he stated.
