The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has instructed all health facilities across the country to rigorously enforce identification procedures for patients and staff following the alleged baby theft at Mamprobi Hospital on February 17.

Speaking during a working visit to the hospital, the Minister stressed that hospital personnel must wear their official name tags at all times while inside the wards.

He clarified that identification tags — including those of mothers and newborns — should only be removed at the designated security exit, not within the ward areas.

According to him, adherence to proper tagging protocols is essential to preventing incidents such as baby swapping and unauthorised access to maternity units.

Akandoh further encouraged hospital authorities to strengthen collaboration with nearby police stations to enhance surveillance and ensure swift action in the event of any suspicious activity.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, called on the Health Ministry to expand the hospital’s labour, postnatal, and recovery wards to improve security measures and overall maternal care services.
