Senior figures of the New Patriotic Party have pledged their support to the party’s 2028 presidential campaign following a courtesy call on flagbearer Mahamudu Bawumia at his private residence in Accra.
The National Council of Patrons of the NPP visited Dr Bawumia on February 13, 2026, to formally congratulate him on what they described as an emphatic victory in the party’s recent presidential primaries. The group said the outcome reflected the strong confidence party members have in his leadership ahead of the 2028 general election.
During the meeting, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to mobilising resources to support what it described as a vigorous and well-organised campaign. Chairperson of the Council and former Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, assured the flagbearer that members were ready to serve in any capacity required.
She emphasised that the Patrons, drawing on their extensive experience and diverse professional backgrounds, stand prepared to serve on committees and work alongside other party structures to secure victory in 2028.
While the atmosphere was largely celebratory, the Council also stressed the need for unity within the party. Members called for a comprehensive reconciliation process that would address internal divisions at all levels, from the grassroots to the national leadership.
In response, Dr Bawumia thanked the Patrons for their endorsement and acknowledged the depth of experience within the group. He assured them that steps were being taken to promote cohesion within the party, announcing plans to establish a Reconciliation Committee to foster peace and unity as preparations for the 2028 polls gather momentum.
The visit signals the beginning of intensified internal organisation within the NPP as it positions itself for the next general election.
