The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) has officially launched activities to mark the historic 150th Anniversary of Mfantsipim School with a Pre-Launch Press Briefing at the MOBA Secretariat in Accra.

The event brought together distinguished alumni, members of the school’s Governing Council, faith leaders, representatives of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and members of the Anniversary Planning Committee.

The briefing follows the unveiling of the official 150th Anniversary logo, a symbolic representation of the school’s rich heritage, core values, and forward-looking vision.

Speaking on behalf of the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church in Ghana, Rt Rev Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey reflected on Mfantsipim’s 150-year legacy of discipline, holistic education, and leadership formation. He highlighted the school’s emphasis on integrity, humility, diligence, accountability, and purposeful leadership, qualities that have shaped generations of alumni who continue to excel locally and globally.

Captain John B. Yamoah, President of the 150th Anniversary Planning Committee, described the milestone as “a remarkable chapter in Ghanaian history,” noting that the sesquicentennial is both a celebration and a moment for reflection and renewal of the school’s founding ideals. He also announced that the commemorative anniversary cloth will be officially unveiled on 20 March at Wesley Towers in Accra, urging MOBA members to wear it proudly as a symbol of unity, heritage, and collective pride.

Captain Yamoah further stressed that the school’s name should be correctly referenced as “Mfantsipim School” or simply “Mfantsipim,” cautioning against misrepresentation that could dilute its historic brand.

In attendance, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the GES, praised Mfantsipim as a torchbearer of academic excellence and called on alumni from all second-cycle institutions to support their alma maters through initiatives in academics and infrastructure.

Headmaster Prof. Ebenezer Aidoo reaffirmed the school’s commitment to holistic learning, nurturing not only intellectual excellence but also moral character and civic responsibility.

As Mfantsipim approaches its sesquicentennial celebrations in Cape Coast, the 150th Anniversary stands as a testament to the school’s enduring legacy and a renewed pledge to faith, excellence, and purposeful leadership, echoing its timeless motto, Dwen Hwe Kan.
