- 15 women, aged 15–35, arrested for alleged sex trafficking and commercial sex offences.
- Landlords charged with converting apartments into brothels during police operation.
- Authorities urge public to report sex traffickers and protect minors from exploitation.
The New Juaben South Municipal Police Command has arrested 15 women, aged between 15 and 35, in connection with alleged sex trafficking and commercial sex offences in Koforidua.
The arrests followed a complaint from a commercial sex worker who claimed she was physically abused by her trafficker and her boyfriend for failing to meet her daily sales target.
The police operation also led to the arrest of landlords who had allegedly converted their apartments into brothels, charging GH¢25 per day for their use.
Briefing journalists at the Central Police Station on February 10, Municipal Commander Superintendent Ransford Nsiah warned landlords involved in such activities to desist or face immediate legal action.
“Last Sunday, we received a complaint from a Nigerian woman who had been assaulted by her mistress, often referred to as a ‘queen mother,’ for failing to meet a daily target of GH¢400,” he explained.
Superintendent Nsiah added that another man had turned his property into a brothel, collecting GH¢25 per day from the women. “Currently, about 15 persons, aged between 15 and 32, are in police custody and will be brought before the court immediately,” he said.
Municipal Crime Officer ASP Asante Kusi Augustine expressed concern over the involvement of minors in commercial sex work and urged the public to report any information that could help apprehend sex traffickers.
