Story Highlights
  • Transport Ministry allegedly overspent GHS10 million from its 2025 budget
  • Minority caucus demands full enquiry and prosecution of responsible officials
  • Overspending cited as a breach of the Public Financial Management Act

The Minority caucus in Parliament has demanded an immediate investigation and prosecution of officials at the Ministry of Transport for allegedly overspending about GHS10 million from its 2025 budget without parliamentary approval.

The caucus highlighted that while Parliament had sanctioned GHS83 million for the ministry’s capital expenditure, the ministry exceeded this allocation by GHS10 million, a potential breach of the Public Financial Management Act (PFM Act).

During debates on the ministry’s 2026 budget estimates, Minority members stressed the need for full accountability and consequences for those responsible. One member stated:

“Has anybody been sent to the OSP? From what I am seeing, from year one alone, many are likely to face legal action. There must be a full enquiry into how they spent in excess of almost GHS10 million. The Minority is demanding answers.”

The caucus insists that heads must roll and a thorough investigation be conducted to prevent similar financial mismanagement in the future.
