MTN Ghana has rolled out its 2025 nationwide road safety training program with a major upgrade—this time delivered in partnership with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
The first phase of the enhanced training was held on Monday at MTN’s Nhyiaeso office in Kumasi, benefiting drivers and staff within the Northern Business District.
This collaboration represents a significant step forward in MTN’s corporate safety strategy, incorporating the expertise of Ghana’s official traffic regulator to strengthen the quality, consistency, and compliance of the training modules.
Purpose of the Program
The revamped training aims to:

Equip staff with advanced, practical road safety and defensive driving skills.

Improve adherence to national road traffic laws.

Enhance responsible driving across MTN’s large fleet and workforce nationwide.
The initiative is expected to promote safer driving habits among MTN employees, reinforcing the company’s reputation as a leader in corporate road safety.
Sobering National Road Crash Context
The session was facilitated by Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng, Director of Education, Research and Training at the MTTD.
He expressed grave concern over the increasing rate of preventable road crashes in Ghana. Between January and October 2025:

About 11,000 road crashes were recorded.

Over 2,400 lives lost.

More than 12,000 injuries registered.
He emphasized that these numbers highlight an urgent national challenge, underscoring the need for proactive collaboration with institutions like MTN.
“This partnership is timely and essential,” he said. “Developing the skills of MTN drivers ensures they demonstrate safer behavior on our roads.”

MTN’s long-standing commitment to safety is reflected in the comprehensive training sessions, which are conducted twice yearly. The curriculum includes:
