MTN Ghana has once again distinguished itself by winning the Overall Project Management Office (PMO) of the Year award at the 2025 Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA), held at the Aqua Safari Resort in Ada, Ghana.

The ceremony was organized by Project Management Institute (PMI) Ghana, following the successful conclusion of the National Project Management Conference (NPMC).

MTN Ghana’s PMO was recognized for its excellence in delivering strategically aligned, benefits-driven projects by focusing on key priority investments and rigorously tracking performance. The PMO met all its targets, demonstrating strong execution, value creation, and a continued commitment to business objectives.

In total, MTN Ghana received four prestigious awards:

  • Telecom Company Project of the Year – NextGen MoMo App

  • Project Manager of the Year – 1st Runner-Up – Selorm Kove

  • Project of the Year – 2nd Runner-Up – The Massive-MIMO Technology Project

  • PMO of the Year – MTN Ghana Project Management Office

The NextGen MoMo App earned MTN Ghana the “Telecom Company Project of the Year” award, recognizing the company’s innovation in fintech. As MTN Ghana’s flagship project, the app supports all four pillars of its technology strategy:

  • Platforms, Ecosystems & Services

  • Agile Operating Model

  • Connectivity & Monetization of Infrastructure

  • Experience: Second to None (PACE)

With features such as a streamlined user interface, biometric authentication, QR payments, phonebook-based transfers, utility bill payments, and digital lending, the app enhances user experience and positions MoMo as more than just a transaction tool. It significantly advances MTN Ghana’s leadership in mobile financial services, boosting customer engagement, revenue, and digital innovation.

Selorm Kove, named 1st Runner-Up for Project Manager of the Year, was acknowledged for his outstanding leadership and data-driven management approach. He led the Multiple Input, Multiple Output (MiMO) projects to a faster execution rate, introducing efficient methodologies that improved stakeholder coordination and predictability. Selorm also developed a performance tracker to quickly identify delays and enable targeted interventions. His work has significantly improved project delivery at MTN Ghana and underscored his results-oriented leadership style.

The Massive-MIMO Project, which earned 2nd Runner-Up for Project of the Year, was designed to enhance network performance across ten regions in Ghana, including Greater Accra and Ashanti. By upgrading existing 4G infrastructure with minimal hardware changes, the project improved data speeds—up to eight times faster in high-traffic areas—without requiring new site construction. This initiative directly supports MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2025 strategy, improving both network scalability and user experience.

Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager for Base Station Subsystems Implementation, led the MTN team in receiving the awards and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to resilience and high standards in project management.

William Tetteh, Chief Transformation Officer at MTN Ghana, commended the project management team’s collaborative spirit and adherence to best practices. He attributed their success to a shared culture of accountability, continuous learning, innovation, and robust risk management. William also emphasized the critical role of interdepartmental collaboration and proactive stakeholder engagement in the successful execution of their award-winning projects.

The 2025 National Project Management Conference (NPMC) and Project Management Excellence Awards (PMEA) were held under the theme “Innovating for Prosperity: How Project Management Will Shape Ghana’s Economic Future.” The conference explored how innovative project management can address national challenges, create economic opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
