Tamale Chief Banishes Two Men for Stealing Goats
Traditional justice in action as Chogu elders clamp down on livestock theft

- Two goat thieves caught in Chogu were banished by the local chief
- One suspect is a National Service personnel from the Forestry Commission
- Elders say the move is to deter future crimes and maintain community peace
In a dramatic act of traditional justice, the Chief of Chogu in Tamale has banished two men for stealing goats in the community.
The culprits — Nafiwu Bakar, a National Service personnel with the Bole Forestry Commission, and Rashid Yussif, both from Damongo — were apprehended last Friday by a community vigilante group while attempting to steal goats in Chogu.
Instead of handing them over to police, the community took the matter to the traditional authorities. After a brief deliberation, the Chief and elders declared the men should be expelled from the area to preserve peace and send a strong message to others.
Though the suspects claimed they were sent by others in exchange for payment, the explanation failed to earn them mercy. The Chief underscored that crime, especially theft, would not be tolerated under his rule.
