An Accra Circuit Court has granted bail set at GH¢100,000 to Frederick Papa Kow-Assifuah, a 30-year-old trader accused of posing as a medical doctor in Kasoa Crispo, Central Region.

The bail conditions include two sureties backed by landed property, with title deeds to be submitted to the Court Registry.

Kow-Assifuah, who has pleaded not guilty, faces charges of impersonating a doctor, practicing medicine without a license, and defrauding multiple victims.

According to Chief Inspector Wisdom Alorwu, three complainants—Genevieve Appau Tete, Sandra Boateng, and Sandra Ewuradwoa Arhin—filed reports after suspecting fraud. The accused allegedly posed as a medical professional online and targeted women for romantic relationships, subsequently extorting money from them under the guise of arranging international travel documents.

On June 6, 2025, he was apprehended at his Kasoa hideout, dressed in a white lab coat with a stethoscope around his neck, while attempting to meet another potential victim. A search of his residence revealed various medical tools and supplies, along with a Ghanaian passport belonging to Madam Tete and GH¢8,500 in cash.

During police interrogation, Kow-Assifuah admitted to collecting GH¢8,500, GH¢25,000, and GH¢2,000 from the three women, respectively, all under false pretenses related to visa procurement. He also defrauded two other victims—GH¢18,500 from Bernard Ameyaw and GH¢1,500 from Elizabeth Dadzie—again with bogus promises of travel documents.

The accused is scheduled to reappear in court on June 25, 2025.
