“Fix the Foundation Before Choosing a Flagbearer” – Kennedy Agyapong Warns NPP
Agyapong Defends Grassroots Structure, Calls for Accountability and Unity Ahead of 2028

- The NPP’s bottom-to-top election structure is sound
- The party must address internal issues causing its defeat
- Fixing the party requires collective effort
Businessman and outspoken politician Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against hastily electing a presidential candidate without first addressing the deep-rooted internal issues that led to the party’s recent electoral defeat.
Speaking at a party gathering, Agyapong threw his full support behind the party’s existing grassroots structure—from polling stations through to the national level—insisting that the system itself is not to blame for the NPP’s troubles.
“There’s absolutely nothing wrong with our bottom-to-top structure,” he declared. “The real issue is that we’ve allowed a few individuals to hijack decision-making and impose their will on the rest of the party.”
He criticized what he described as a growing culture of exclusion and top-down control, warning that rushing into presidential primaries without introspection would only repeat past mistakes.
“We haven’t diagnosed the cause of our defeat. So why the rush to elect a new flagbearer? Even if you bring Jesus Christ, we still won’t win if the problems persist.”
🔍 Call for Reflection and Collective Responsibility
Agyapong emphasized that fixing the party’s internal cracks is a collective responsibility that cannot be left to any single candidate, no matter how popular or capable.
“A presidential candidate alone cannot solve this. It has to be a team effort. The survival of the party depends on unity and fairness.”
He also raised concerns about political victimization within the NPP, saying that sidelining members for dissenting opinions fosters division and weakens the party’s base.
“You create monsters who go around excluding people just because they don’t like their faces. That’s not how you build a winning party.”
💰 Pledges Support for Grassroots Reform
Agyapong offered to raise significant funds to ensure that internal elections—from the polling station level up—are conducted transparently and inclusively.
“If money is the issue, I’ll raise it. One phone call and I can get you $7 million to run a proper electoral process from the grassroots.”
📣 Final Appeal: Prioritize the Party Over Personal Ambition
Kennedy Agyapong concluded by urging NPP leadership to place the party’s long-term health above personal ambitions, warning that the consequences of ignoring foundational problems will only grow worse with time.
“Let’s put the party first. Think carefully about the direction we’re heading. Today it’s someone else being pushed out—tomorrow, it could be you.”
