Mahama Orders MMDCEs to Declare Assets by July 15 as Direct Elections Loom

President John Dramani Mahama has instructed all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to submit their asset declarations by July 15, 2025.
He made this announcement during an orientation and training session for MMDCEs on Wednesday, June 18.
“You are among the officials required to declare your assets, and I expect all of you to complete this by July 15,” the President emphasized.
Mahama also hinted at a possible shift from the current appointment system for MMDCEs to a more democratic process.
“One significant proposal from the ongoing constitutional review is for MMDCEs to be elected directly by the people. You may be the last group appointed. The National Review Committee will present its recommendations in August, and election of MMDCEs is a key item. It’s clear Ghanaians want elected MMDCEs, so your successors might come through elections,” he explained.
Furthermore, the President urged MMDCEs to manage public funds responsibly, noting a historic increase in allocations through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
“We’ve ensured the largest ever transfer of funds from the DACF, with 80% going directly to your offices. We expect you to use these funds transparently and wisely, prioritizing the welfare of the people, not personal interests,” Mahama concluded.
