The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Baah Acheamfour, has launched a scathing critique of leaders at the Ashanti Regional Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
He accused them of intentionally sabotaging President John Dramani Mahama’s administration amid worsening power outages in the region.
Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show, Acheamfour stated that the frequent and erratic electricity cuts, popularly known as dumsor, are not merely technical faults or routine maintenance issues, but a calculated effort to undermine Mahama’s credibility and governance.
“How can you switch off the lights seven times in a single day — even from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. — and call that maintenance? This is not incompetence; this is deliberate sabotage,” he fumed.
Acheamfour called on the NDC national leadership to take swift and decisive action against what he believes is a coordinated attempt to frustrate the efforts of the Mahama-led administration and discredit his achievements.
He singled out leaders in the Ashanti Region’s energy sector, calling for their immediate transfer.
“People are clandestinely trying to sabotage this government. The Regional Minister and the Energy Minister must be cautious and act decisively,” he warned.
Defending the appointments made by Mahama, Acheamfour asserted that all appointees are competent, experienced, and capable of delivering results.
He added that, unlike previous administrations, Mahama has demonstrated the political will to hold his appointees accountable, citing the case of former Transport Minister Dzifa Attivor, who resigned over the controversial bus branding saga.
“Since the return to democratic rule in 1992, no government has been more lenient yet effective than Mahama’s,” Acheamfour emphasized. “He has the track record, and we must all support him.”
He urged party members and the general public to unite in their efforts and “put the ECG on their toes,” stressing that the NDC remains focused on restoring efficient governance and economic stability.
