- Okyeman Youth accuse MP Murtala Mohammed of labeling J.B. Danquah a “traitor” and “CIA operative
- Petition urges Speaker to compel the MP to retract and apologize in Parliament
- Group insists remarks be removed from records to protect Ghana’s historical legacy.
The Coalition for Youth Development in Okyeman has petitioned Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, over alleged derogatory comments made against the late Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah, a key figure in Ghana’s independence movement.
The group claims that Tamale Central MP, Murtala Mohammed, labeled Dr. Danquah a “traitor” and a “CIA operative” during parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025. They argue that such statements are offensive and disrespectful to his legacy.
In their petition, convenor Akomaning Yeboah urged the Speaker to compel the MP to retract the remarks and issue a formal apology. They also called for the comments to be expunged from parliamentary records, warning that historical misrepresentations could undermine national unity.
Receiving the petition, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Djietror, assured that the Speaker would address the matter accordingly.
