At least 63 people have been injured after an Iranian missile and drone attack struck Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, causing extensive damage to the main passenger terminal and forcing a temporary disruption of flight operations, according to Kuwaiti authorities.
The attack reportedly targeted civilian infrastructure, including Kuwait International Airport and diplomatic installations, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions despite an earlier announced ceasefire.
Kuwaiti officials said Terminal 1 of the airport sustained substantial damage, leading to the diversion of flights and a temporary suspension of operations as emergency services responded to the incident.
Kuwait’s state news agency confirmed that 63 individuals were injured in the strike. The Civil Aviation Authority added that the airport infrastructure suffered considerable damage before authorities initiated a partial resumption of services following safety assessments.
National carrier Kuwait Airways later resumed limited operations from Terminal 4 after inspections cleared parts of the facility for use.
A spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Defence Ministry condemned the incident as “criminal Iranian aggression,” noting that the attack caused both civilian injuries and material destruction. Medical teams treated the injured, although further details on their conditions were not immediately disclosed.
The attack is part of a wider escalation involving Iranian strikes across the Gulf region. U.S. military sources said some missiles aimed at Kuwait failed to reach their targets, while several drones targeting U.S. forces were intercepted or neutralised.
In response, U.S. forces reportedly conducted retaliatory strikes on targets on Iran’s Qeshm Island and intercepted incoming missiles and drones across the region.
The renewed hostilities have heightened concerns over regional stability, particularly regarding critical aviation routes and energy infrastructure in the Gulf.
Oil markets also reacted to the escalation, with prices rising amid fears of further disruption to shipping lanes and global energy supplies.
