Zanetor Pledges Decisive Action as Environment, Science and Technology Minister

Newly appointed Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has pledged to serve with integrity, humility and purpose as she takes on her new role.

In a message following her appointment, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence placed in her, describing public service as a call to duty, sacrifice and stewardship.

She said she intends to use science, technology and innovation to support Ghana’s development, with particular focus on job creation, industrial growth, agriculture and healthcare.

On environmental protection, the Minister acknowledged the challenges posed by climate change, illegal mining, waste management, pollution and the degradation of natural resources.

She stressed that tackling these challenges would require courage, innovation, collaboration and decisive action.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said Ghana’s natural resources should be viewed as an inheritance entrusted to the current generation to protect for future generations.

She pledged to work closely with scientists, researchers, innovators, environmentalists, businesses, institutions and communities to advance Ghana’s environmental and technological agenda.

According to her, science and technology must move beyond academia into practical partnerships capable of creating jobs, strengthening industries, improving agriculture and healthcare, and making Ghana more competitive.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings said the true measure of her time in public office would not be the position she holds, but the lives touched and the difference made.

She therefore appealed to Ghanaians for their prayers, support, ideas and partnership as she begins her tenure.

“This is bigger than any one individual. It is about the Ghana we leave behind, and I am ready to serve,” she said.
