Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, has described former Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as a “political prisoner,” while expressing hope that he will emerge from his current circumstances stronger.

Speaking at the NPP’s National Delegates Congress and Officers’ Elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, said Wontumi was not without flaws but maintained that he was a kind-hearted person.

“Wontumi is not a saint, but today he is a political prisoner,” COKA said.

He appealed to party supporters and sympathisers to pray for the former Ashanti Regional Chairman and ask for strength for him to overcome the difficulties he is facing.

According to COKA, Wontumi’s character and contributions to the party should not be overlooked despite the challenges surrounding him.

He expressed confidence that the former regional chairman would emerge from the situation stronger.

“Wontumi is a kind man. Let us pray to God to give him strength to see him through. I believe Wontumi will come out stronger,” he said.

COKA’s remarks were made during the NPP’s national gathering in Kumasi, where party delegates are participating in the election of new national executives as the party reorganises its structures.
