A woman, believed to be in her late 30s, has been discovered dead in an abandoned stone quarry at Gomoa Asarekrom, near Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

The exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be determined, as it remains unclear whether she was killed elsewhere and dumped at the site or died within the quarry itself.

Residents say the Sarpong quarry, which has been out of use since 2016, has become a hotspot for criminal activity due to its overgrown vegetation and lack of security presence.

Speaking to journalists, the Guantuahene of Gomoa Asarekrom, Nana Nyarko Ababio, revealed that the body had remained at the scene since Friday evening without being removed by authorities.

He has urged the Ghana Police Service and environmental health officials in the Gomoa East District to quickly retrieve the body to prevent decomposition and health risks.

Nana Nyarko Ababio also called on government authorities to investigate and take action against the owner of the abandoned quarry, warning that the site poses a serious danger to nearby residents.

He further claimed that over 20 bodies have reportedly been recovered from the quarry since it ceased operations, raising serious concerns about safety and security in the area.

As of the time of reporting, the body was still at the scene awaiting removal by authorities.
