The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has called on filmmakers, actors, and other creatives to focus on depth, quality, and professionalism rather than mere visibility in the African film industry.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025 in Accra on Saturday, December 13, the Vice President urged particularly new creatives to adopt a more strategic and professional approach to filmmaking.
The festival, which brought together filmmakers, actors, producers, and creatives from Ghana and across Africa, celebrated excellence in storytelling and cinematic innovation.

Commending REFFA for its role in recognising talent, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the platform’s potential to help African films access regional and international markets. She stressed that initiatives like REFFA are crucial in positioning African narratives globally while preserving cultural authenticity and depth.
The Vice President further emphasised that African stories must be told with purpose and excellence to resonate with audiences and compete effectively in the global entertainment space.
She also called on investors, development partners, and industry stakeholders to adopt a long-term perspective on the film industry, highlighting its capacity to create jobs, promote cultural diplomacy, and contribute to economic growth.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang congratulated all award recipients and participants, expressing optimism about the future of REFFA as a promising platform for nurturing the next generation of creative talent and elevating African storytelling on the world stage.
The Regal Film Festival and Awards is a pan-African initiative celebrating excellence, innovation, and cultural storytelling in African cinema. The festival featured film screenings, panel discussions, professional masterclasses, and a Culture Night celebrating African heritage, recognising outstanding talent across various categories.
