The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) has confirmed the death of one of its students, Mr. Godfred Akomaning.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, March 24, by Deputy Registrar and Head of the University Relations Office, Alfred Ohenenana Appiah, the university said the Level 400 BSc Petroleum Engineering student passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, while receiving medical care at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
A medical report indicated that the cause of death was organophosphate poisoning.
UENR noted that the student’s parents have been informed, and his body has been taken to the Sefwi Anwiaso Community Hospital Mortuary.
The university expressed profound sympathy to the family and the campus community, describing the loss as tragic.
Management also confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, with further updates to be provided to the public.
The statement reaffirmed UENR’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of both students and staff.
